Soybean Insect And Disease Field Day Set For September 10  

Learn to identify and manage soybean pests and diseases

MILAN, TENNESSEE

 The latest research on managing insects and diseases affecting soybean production will be featured during the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s Soybean Insect and Disease Field Day on September 10. This free event, open to producers across the region, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the AgResearch and Education Center at Milan.

Researchers will lead guided tours of ongoing field trials on crop variety performance, fungicide efficacy, defoliation timing and other production practices. The event will also provide hands-on opportunities to identify common soybean diseases, including:

• Frogeye leaf spot

• Target spot

• Septoria brown spot

• Taproot decline

• And more

“While the growing season is almost complete, many diseases can still rob yield for late-planted soybeans,” says Heather Kelly, field crops pathologist in the UT Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology. “We want to equip producers with the latest research to identify pathogens and insects and determine the appropriate management strategies. Together, we can stay ahead of concerns this year and improve control in 2027.”

The AgResearch and Education Center at Milan is located at 3 Ledbetter Gate Road in Milan, Tennessee. Attendees will receive pesticide recertification points for attending, in addition to a complimentary lunch at the conclusion of the tour.   ∆
