SUMMARY:Arkansas Agriculture\, Forests\, and Water Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Arkansas Water Resources Center will co-host its annual conference July 16-18 to address a broad spectrum of water issues including stormwater\, source water protection\, groundwater\, and stakeholder perceptions and education. \nThe conference will be July 16-18 at the Don Tyson Center for Agricultural Sciences\, 1371 W. Altheimer Drive in Fayetteville. \n“The conference has expanded in recent years beyond its traditional research focus and our organizing committee has grown\, too\,” said Brian Haggard\, director of the Arkansas Water Resources Center. “This year\, our conference has a new name — the Arkansas Agriculture\, Forests\, and Water Conference.” \nThe event was previously called the Arkansas Water Resources Conference. Haggard is also a professor of biological and agricultural engineering with the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station\, the research arm of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. \nThe Arkansas Water Resources Center collects\, analyzes\, and provides water quality data to support municipalities\, state agencies and watershed groups as they develop and implement management plans and practices. Located in Fayetteville\, the center is part of a national network of water research centers investigating irrigation\, wastewater disposal\, groundwater\, erosion\, pollution and ecosystem problems. \nThe conference organizing committee includes representatives from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture\, Forestry\, and Natural Resources Divisions; the Arkansas Drinking Water and Forests Collaborative; the Beaver Watershed Alliance; the Illinois River Watershed Partnership; and the Arkansas Water Resources Center. \nOver the course of two and a half days\, the 2024 conference will cover relevant topics for stakeholders statewide\, and highlights presentations covering northwest and central Arkansas\, as well as the east Arkansas Delta. \nConference session themes include: \n\nWater myths and disinformation\nScience behind the water stories\nState\, program\, and watershed updates\nSource water protection\n“Know the Flow” and educational/outreach opportunities\nConservation efforts\, floodplains and forests\nGroundwater\, a USGS special session\nStakeholder perceptions of groundwater risks and their value\n\nA detailed agenda will be released prior to the conference at the Arkansas Water Resources Center website. \nThe early registration price of $100 includes the popular conference T-shirt. The registration price goes up to $200 after July 1\, and conference T-shirts will have to be purchased separately if supplies are available. \nDiscounted registration of $50 is available to students and county extension agents through the support of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and to landowners through support from the Arkansas Farm Bureau and Arkansas Discovery Farms. \n\nThis article provided by University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station. SUMMARY:University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture's Annual Weed Tour
DESCRIPTION:⋅ BY LARRY STECKEL ⋅ \nThe University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture will host the annual Weed Tour this Thursday\, June 20 at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center. The guided tour will feature 60 weed management research tests in cotton\, corn and soybean. \nWeed Tour runs from 9 – 11:30 a.m.\, with registration opening at 8:30 a.m. A light breakfast will be served. \nLarry Steckel\, UT Extension weed specialist\, will lead the tour\, along with Dr. Lauren Lazaro\, Senior Agronomist with Blue River Technology. \n“Most of the research featured in the 2024 Weed Tour involves management of glyphosate-resistant grass species and multiple herbicide-resistant Palmer amaranth\,” says Steckel. “Management of these weeds in Liberty\, Axant\, Xtend and Enlist weed control systems will be highlighted.” \nSteckel says the tour will also cover research-based strategies to manage the increasing problem with glyphosate-resistant grass species\, as well as glyphosate/PPO/dicamba-resistant Palmer amaranth.  A tractor-mounted See & SprayTM test system from John Deere that uses visual recognition and machine learning to selectively spray pesticides in crop fields rather than broadcasting herbicides over the entire area will be shown. \nAt the conclusion\, tour leaders will be available for consultation\, as well as discussion of issues and product performance. \nThe West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center is located at 605 Airways Boulevard\, Jackson\, Tennessee. Upon arrival\, follow signs to the weed management research plots. For directions\, or more information\, call 731-425-4705. \nThrough its mission of research\, teaching and extension\, the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture touches lives and provides Real.
